Copyediting Services

Below is a description of what you can expect with my copyediting services. I apply high editorial standards while respecting an author’s unique voice and writing style. I use the track changes feature of Microsoft Word for editing.

Copyediting can be light, medium or heavy. While copyediting includes the basics of proofreading (correcting grammar errors and typos), it also goes to a deeper level of editing.

I will do the following:

  • Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Point out redundancies and suggest synonyms.
  • Create consistency in spelling, numbers, capitalization, names, and hyphenation.
  • Ask when something isn’t clear.
  • Flag jargon and suggest more commonly used terms.
  • Rework awkward or confusing sentences.
  • Ensure that notes and citations are complete and consistent in style.

I can convert texts from British English to American English and refine manuscripts that have been translated into English from other languages.

I copyedit fiction, non-fiction, academic texts, memoirs, and articles. I use APA, MLA, Chicago Manual of Style, and any other styles. Ideally, a manuscript will be proofread before publication.

Generally I charge by the hour; however, if requested, I can charge by the page, using a standard of 250 words per page.
